On Monday, 23rd December 2024, President Akufo-Addo had the great honour of commissioning the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Ezinlibo in the Western Region, a critical step in Ghana’s efforts to protect the country’s territorial and maritime integrity.

This strategically located base will enhance the Navy’s capacity to combat piracy, illegal fishing, and other security threats in the Gulf of Guinea.

Ezinlibo joins a network of Forward Operating Bases across the country, including those at Tilli, Bui, Sankore and Kenyase, with new ones planned for Keta, Ada, Winneba and Elmina.

The president claims that these bases demonstrate the dedication of his administration to safeguarding Ghana's resources and maintaining regional and national peace and security.

The Ghana Navy Ship (GNS) Achimota, the biggest ship ever constructed in Ghana, was also commissioned by President Akufo-Addo later that day at Sekondi Naval Base.

GNS Achimota, which is 65 meters long, is a potent representation of the progress our Navy has made over the course of its 65-year history.

As I stated at the ceremony, "GNS Achimota is a symbol of our Navy's development and a testament to its tenacity, service, and expansion." This ship demonstrates our unshakable commitment to establishing Ghana as a maritime superpower in the region, as do the more than 20 other contemporary platforms we acquired under my government.

These accomplishments are a part of the Ghana Armed Forces' overall modernization and reform during my tenure. Our Armed Forces have been prepared to handle both current and upcoming problems since the founding of the Navy Training Command and the Riverine Command. I am immensely proud of the men and women of the Ghana Navy, whose bravery, commitment, and selflessness continue to protect the peace and sovereignty of our country.

I am reminded of the accomplishments we have made together on days like today as my tenure as Commander-in-Chief comes to an end. These landmarks serve as a legacy of strength and optimism for next generations, not just a celebration of accomplishments and infrastructure. The president stressed, "Let's keep working to create a stronger, safer Ghana."
