Over a hundred teenagers stormed the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) today, Wednesday, demanding the removal of former government appointees less than 24 hours after Ghana's new President was sworn in.
According to sources within the refinery, the group stated that they did not want any appointees from the previous administration to remain in office.
According to accounts, some of the group was also looking for work after the country's new administration took office.
According to sources, the refinery's security officials had to work hard to contain the enraged youth, who eventually consented to leave.
The 45,000 barrel per stream day premier refinery had been idle for several months under the previous regime.
Efforts to find a private partner to help renovate the refinery failed.
The refinery employs roughly 515 people.
