At the gate to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo unveiled a statue of himself. His one-day "thank you" tour in the Western Region included this stop.
According to Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, the statue is intended to commemorate the president's contributions to the area. This entails renovating the Takoradi Market Circle, constructing a three-tier Sinohydro interchange, and repairing the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital. But a lot of these initiatives are still ongoing, and others have even ceased completely.
On Wednesday, November 6, President Akufo-Addo discussed his accomplishments since assuming office in a speech to Takoradi locals. He asserted that he has kept eighty percent of his pledges to the Ghanaians.
Ghanaians took to social media to express their discontent, noting that Nkrumah, Mandela, and Obama never built statues for themselves.
User A stated: “Nkrumah never built a statue for himself, Mandela never built a statue for himself, Obama never built a statue for himself but Akufo-Addo builds statue for himself while in office cos man thinks presidency is some family stool or some monarchy? Ghanaians are not angry enough!!!”
User B added: “By force history will never be acknowledged no matter what.”
Some internet users, however, had a different opinion. "Blind people, a man deserves his honor," was one noteworthy comment. If not all you wish, he has done enough. Aren't you embarrassed to criticize a man who offered free education because he considered people who couldn't afford it? What a lack of thanks! You'll realize why the economy is struggling if you do your homework. Quit the bullshit; a man is worthy of his respect.
