President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has voiced confidence in Ghana's economic recovery, claiming that the country's economy has outperformed expectations despite major hurdles.

In his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on January 3, 2025, the President said unequivocally that Ghana is not in financial difficulty, emphasizing the resilience and stability gained throughout his term.

"Mr. Speaker, the country is not broke, as some propagandists would have us think. We manage the country's gross international reserves of nearly $8 billion. This exceeds the $6.2 billion in gross international reserves that my government inherited in 2017. The President observed that the progress was due to smart government actions targeted at addressing fiscal issues and promoting growth.

President Akufo-Addo also noted the effective completion of three consecutive IMF reviews. The most recent evaluation, authorized on December 2, 2024, resulted in a $360 million transfer to support ongoing recovery efforts.

Reflecting on the aftermath of the COVID-19 outbreak, the President acknowledged Ghanaians' economic challenges while emphasizing the progress made toward recovery. He underlined the government's commitment to building a strong basis for long-term economic prosperity. Watch the video below.
