The Ho Circuit Court sentenced three individuals to 125 years in jail with hard labor for a crime that resulted in GH₵825,000 in cash and valuables.
The guilty people are Nzete Chukunhru Best, a 28-year-old second-hand clothing merchant; Mark Billy Agbozo, a 31-year-old teacher; and Ernest Sokpi Amevor, a 32-year-old driver and self-proclaimed peacemaker.
The males were found guilty of violating Sections 20(1) and 149(1) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29), as modified by the Criminal Offences (Amendment) Act 2003 (Act 646).
The incident occurred on May 29, 2021, in Ayitikope-Akatsi, Volta Region. Using a Daewoo taxi cab with registration number GE 3739-12, the perpetrators broke into the home of Atsu Kumordzi, a lottery agent.
They stole GH₵160,000, equal to GH₵640,000 in CFA Francs, and an extra GH₵25,000 belonging to Peace Lordeena Sedofia.
The case was investigated and forwarded to the Attorney General's Office for advice. Following a comprehensive trial presided over by His Lordship Felix Datsomor, the three were convicted of several offenses.
Each of the defendants received a 25-year sentence for each offense, to be served consecutively.
Efforts are underway to arrest six more accomplices who reportedly functioned as spies and supported the crime.
