Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has expressed unhappiness with what he sees as a lack of recognition for his crucial role in the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) win in the Northern Region during the recent elections.
In a candid presentation, Kennedy Agyapong stated that he personally campaigned for 17 parliamentary candidates in the Northern Region, 16 of whom were elected. He stressed that his participation considerably boosted the party's success, mentioning instances where vote margins increased dramatically.
"Imagine I hadn't campaigned—how much would we have gotten? "Wherever I went to campaign, we won," Kennedy Agyapong said, emphasizing the efficacy of his strategic efforts and financial backing.
Highlighting his achievements, the Assin Central MP described different activities aimed at increasing the party's visibility. These included donating 20 corn mill equipment to Farouk Mahama, presenting a new pickup vehicle to the Chief of Mion, and distributing 200 cedis to each woman who attended campaign rallies. He also disclosed that he intends to establish a school for a local community as part of his commitment to the party's development plan.
Kennedy Agyapong also cited his efforts in Tolon, where he provided pickup trucks to support campaign activities. However, he was disappointed that, despite his assistance, others have claimed credit for the NPP's success in the region.
"Nobody in the North acknowledges the effort I performed for the party there. They attribute their success in the North to a single candidate," he bemoaned.
Frustrated by what he regards as a lack of thanks, Kennedy Agyapong promised not to repeat such efforts in future elections. He also stated that he regrets not focusing on his own electorate, as his sacrifices for other regions went unnoticed.
The outspoken MP's comments provoked discussions regarding the NPP's internal dynamics and the appreciation of individual contributions to the party's electoral triumphs. It is unclear whether this discontent will impact future campaign plans.
