Today, January 7th, 2025, marks a watershed point in Ghanaian political history with President John Dramani Mahama's inauguration at Independence Square.
Mahama becomes the first incumbent to lose a Fourth Republic election and then return to the presidency after losing a reelection bid.
Among the notable visitors in attendance is Nigeria's President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is celebrating Ghana's peaceful transition of power.
Former South African President Jacob Zuma and President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame are also attending.
A total of 21 heads of state and former leaders, including current and former vice presidents, are attending the ceremony to show unity and support for Ghana's democratic process.
Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, the former First Lady of the Fourth Republic, attended the occasion, as did former President John Kufuor and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was accompanied by his wife, Samira Bawumia, the immediate former Second Lady.
Sheik Osman Shaributu, the National Chief Imam, was also present.
Yagbonwura Jira Bii - Kunuto Jewu Soale I and his entourage arrived in Accra for his son's inauguration ceremony.
Notable figures including as Nacee and Julius Debrah are also present, joining the ranks of high-profile dignitaries who have gathered to witness this watershed moment in Ghana's democratic history.
Patoranking and Atta Mills' son arrive for President Mahama's inauguration.
Representatives from several international organizations and diplomatic offices attended the ceremony.
The inauguration ceremony commemorates an important day in Ghana's political history.
