As Election Day approaches on December 7, the Okaikoi North constituency prepares for another heated political battle. This seat, established in 1992, has a lengthy history of alternating control between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). With only three days to go, the key issue remains: will the NDC hold the seat, or will the NPP recapture it?

Historically, the NPP has dominated the Okaikoi North constituency, winning it six times. However, the NDC has demonstrated that it is capable of winning, most notably in the 1992 election and again in the 2020 election. Theresa Lardi Awuni of the NDC won the last election by approximately 2,000 votes, defeating the then-incumbent NPP MP, Issah Fuseini. This victory was hailed as a watershed moment for the NDC in a constituency previously dominated by the NPP.

Theresa Awuni, determined to keep her position, has been actively campaigning. During a recent protest, she showed her belief in the Okaikoi North community. "They voted for change in 2020, and we have worked hard to deliver," she told the crowd. "I trust they will choose progress over empty promises."

But the NPP will not give up without a fight. Nana Ama Dokua, the current Member of Parliament for Akropong, is the NPP's contender in Okaikoi North. Nana Ama has moved to the constituency to run for this important seat, and she is optimistic in her chances of winning. "This is not just about winning; it's about giving Okaikoi North the leadership it truly deserves," she said at a recent campaign event. "We have done it before, and we will do it again."

Both parties have been very active in the constituency, conducting rallies, visiting towns, and engaging with citizens. The NPP is enthusiastic about reclaiming control, while the NDC is determined to keep the seat.

The contest has grown very competitive, with both candidates proposing unique views for the constituency's future. A nearby resident stated, "Theresa has done well, but Nana Ama is also a strong candidate. It's not an easy decision.

As December 7 approaches, all eyes are on Okaikoi North. The results of this election will not only determine who represents the seat in Parliament, but they may also indicate a shift in regional political dynamics. With such high stakes, voters are advised to make careful choices.

"The future of Okaikoi North is in our hands," one voter declared. "At the end of the day, we all want the best for this community."
