A horrific fire broke out at the Kantamanto market in the Greater Accra district, leaving traders and shop owners reeling. The blaze that damaged areas of the market elicited tears, anger, and accusations. Victims of the fire have come forward, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of carrying out the arson attack.

According to one of the victims, the NDC had been coveting the land on which the market is located and had threatened to take it over if they gained power. The victim alleged that the NDC perceived the market as a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and sought to eliminate it. "This is an NPP stronghold, and they want to seize it from us. That is why they purposefully did this to us," the victim claimed.

Another survivor made a stunning claim: the first fire ambulance to arrive at the scene ignited the fire, exacerbating it. The victim said that the water tank car spewed petrol rather than water, intensifying the fire. "The sections where the water tank car splashed burnt more. That's why we understood it wasn't water they brought, but petrol to aggravate the situation," the victim alleged.

The claims have caused fury and anxiety among local businessmen and residents. Many people are pushing for a comprehensive investigation into the fire's cause as well as the victims' allegations.

The Ghana National incident Service has initiated an investigation into the cause of the incident, but has not responded to the victims' complaints. The National Democratic Congress has not replied to the charges.

As the inquiry continues, traders and store owners harmed by the fire are pleading for help to rebuild their companies. The Kantamanto market fire has emphasized the need for enhanced fire safety measures, as well as the need of addressing the underlying causes of disasters.
