Armah Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for the Ellembele seat, has responded to remarks made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin in Parliament. He rejected Afenyo-Markin's critiques of President John Dramani Mahama's administration as concerns motivated by bitterness at losing the 2024 elections.
Speaking in Parliament on January 9, 2025, Kofi Buah stated, "Afenyo-Markin has been talking a lot lately, but we're allowing him to release all the pains of losing. Instead of continuously criticizing, he should concentrate on becoming effective as a minority leader."
This reaction comes after Afenyo-Markin questioned the administration's approach to ministerial selections, calling it a "tot-tot" procedure and insisting that the government be completely prepared from day one. He also criticized the government of prioritizing media announcements over effective engagement with Parliament.
Kofi Buah defended President Mahama's progressive appointment of ministers, arguing that it is consistent with the President's objective of establishing a lean and effective government. He added that a thorough selection procedure is required to ensure that the best people are chosen for crucial posts.
"President Mahama has made it clear that his administration will be effective and dedicated. Rushing nominations to please critics would not benefit Ghana. "We must support the government as it takes deliberate steps to build a strong team," Kofi Buah concluded.
He also urged the Minority Leader to work with the government to address the country's critical issues rather than turning to continual criticism.
