According to the Ghana Boxing Authority, famed Ghanaian boxer Clement Ike Quartey died on November 2, 2024, in the United Kingdom. Although the cause of his death has not yet been revealed, he was 54 years old.

During his 42-fight professional boxing career, which lasted from 1988 to 2006, Quartey recorded 37 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, with 31 of his victories coming via knockout.

Quartey, also known as "Bazooka," was a competitor in the WBA welterweight, light-welterweight, and light-middleweight weight classes. Holding the WBA welterweight belt from 1994 to 1998, when he gained notoriety for his potent jabs, was the high point of his career. At the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas in 1999, he faced American boxer Oscar De La Hoya in one of his most famous fights.

In 1990, Quartey won a silver medal in Rome, making history as Ghana's first Olympic medalist.
