The Ghana Police Service (GPS) consists of various specialized units, each painstakingly trained to solve distinct security concerns in the country. Wikipedia lists five of Ghana's most highly trained police battalions.

1. Criminal Investigation Division (CID):

The CID is the GPS's primary investigation branch, tasked with investigating serious offenses such as homicide, fraud, and cybercrime. Officers in this team are extensively trained in forensic analysis, questioning techniques, and evidence gathering to ensure thorough investigations.

2. Marine Police Unit (MPU):

The MPU was established in April 2011 to address maritime-related offenses, especially those involving Ghana's offshore oil and gas industry. Personnel are trained in maritime law enforcement, navigation, and rescue operations to efficiently police the country's waters.

3. Formed Police Unit (FPU):

The FPU was established to serve as a mobile section, responding to public disorder situations and providing crowd control at large events. To maintain public order, officers in this unit get riot control, tactical response, and crowd management training.



4. Police Intelligence Unit:



This unit was formed in response to the rising complexity of criminal activities and is dedicated to gathering, evaluating, and acting on intelligence in order to prevent and solve crimes. Officers receive training in intelligence analysis, surveillance, and undercover operations to successfully combat sophisticated criminal businesses.



5. Mounted Squadron Unit:



This squad, which began operations on August 12, 2021, conducts horse patrols in specific areas of Accra. Officers undergo specialized training in equestrian skills and crowd management, which helps to increase police presence in regions that are difficult to reach by car.

These specialist groups serve an important role in preserving peace and order throughout Ghana, with each contributing specific skills and training to suit the country's different security demands.
