President-elect John Dramani Mahama has returned to the presidency by taking the oath of office in a lavish ceremony that was attended by 24 envoys, three vice presidents, four ministers, and twenty-one heads of state.

This historic event highlights the international recognition of Ghana's democratic transition and garners a lot of attention both domestically and abroad.

Many dignitaries from all over the world attended the inauguration, which took place in Accra's Independence Square. Mahama urged all Ghanaians to unite in his victory address and work together for a better future. According to him, "the Ghanaians who have trusted in our vision deserve this victory, not just me."

The Ghana Police Service put strict security measures in place throughout Accra to guarantee a safe and orderly inauguration. The flow of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic was controlled by roadblocks, traffic restrictions, and diversions. Important sites, such as the State House, the AU Roundabout, and the Ako Adjei Interchange, were surrounded by designated security perimeters.

Security Measures in Place

The police verified plans for the swearing-in of the Speaker of Parliament and newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) at Parliament House on January 6, 2025, in addition to the swearing-in of the president.

The Ministry of National Security banned all private drones from operating near Black Star Square as part of the increased security measures. This regulation, which aims to protect the public and dignitaries, applies to both commercial and recreational drones.

As Vice President-elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang and President-elect John Dramani Mahama enter office, Ghana has made sure that the transfer of power goes smoothly by implementing strong security and logistical plans.
