The leader of Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has publicly asked Cynthia Morrison, a member of parliament representing the Agona West Constituency, to use caution when speaking in public, according to a Ghanaweb report. In an interview with Okay FM, Afenyo-Markin reminded Morrison that although she is no longer a minister, she is still a well-known NPP figure and should be careful what she says in the press.

Morrison, the former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, made a number of remarks in recent interviews that Afenyo-Markin believed were too disclosing to internal party issues, prompting the statement. He underlined the value of discretion as a devoted party member and stressed that some information is intended to be kept private. "I've watched a few of Honorable Cynthia Morrison's interviews," Afenyo-Markin stated, "and although I value her perspectives, I would advise her to exercise caution in what she discloses to the public." He pointed out that candid conversations about delicate subjects may inadvertently damage the party's reputation and unity, especially as the nation prepares for elections.

Afenyo-Markin emphasized the need for party unity, implying that internal disclosures or public disputes could present preventable difficulties for the NPP, even if he did not name the specific utterances that he considered troubling. As the ruling party gets ready for the next elections, when internal unity is essential to their campaign, his remarks coincide with increased political activity and scrutiny. In an acknowledgment of Morrison's background and efforts, Afenyo-Markin promised that her viewpoint would continue to be valued within the party and urged her to voice any concerns or offer ideas on party issues through internal channels. He pointed out that in order for the party to resolve any internal conflicts without jeopardizing public trust in the NPP, civil and discreet talks were essential.

Due to fierce competition and efforts to preserve its reputation, the NPP has placed a greater emphasis on coordinating its members' public messaging. The party's aim to put up a united front, particularly with notable individuals like Morrison, whose previous ministerial job has made her an influential voice, is reflected in Afenyo-Markin's public reminder. Ghana's main political parties are aggressively managing internal dynamics and external campaigning as the nation gets closer to the December 2024 elections. As Ghanaian voters prepare for a difficult election season, the NPP hopes that their emphasis on messaging discipline will convey their resolve to project togetherness.
