The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has announced that new Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will be appointed to lead regional assemblies across the country within the next two weeks.
According to Ashie Moore, President John Dramani Mahama intends to replace all MMDCEs whose appointments were recently annulled.
This comes after the Presidency issued a statement on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, announcing the termination of all present MMDCE appointments as part of measures to reform local governance.
Speaking to Citi News, Ashie Moore urged party supporters to be patient as the President finalized the new nominations.
He stated that the process is being handled meticulously to ensure that qualified individuals are chosen to lead the assembly efficiently.
"Per our party's machinery, this week we are also doing a screening of the nomination of the prospective candidates for those positions so I can promise the party people, especially what I know in my region, that hopefully if everything goes well by the close of the next 14 days, we will also have MMDCEs in place so they should cooperate with us."
