Hope Nunekpeku, a 21-year-old commercial motorbike (Okada) rider, was granted GH₵50,000 bail with two sureties by the Amasaman Circuit Court for an alleged robbery attempt.

Nunekpeku pled not guilty to the accusations, according to graphic online. His next court hearing is set for January 6, 2025. Meanwhile, his suspected accomplice, named only as Dickson, is still at large.

Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru informed the court, presided over by Ms. Anid Marful-Sau, that the complainant, an Opah-based driver, had stopped his Sprinter Benz bus by the roadside at Shikpontele on December 4, 2023, about 9:30 p.m.

The complainant was taking money and groceries from the truck to give to his wife when he observed a motorcycle approaching. The two bike riders appeared to be paying great attention to him.

The complainant was suspicious of their behavior and questioned them. The motorcycle then stopped in front of his vehicle. Shortly later, the complainant's wife came and joined him in the vehicle, where they proceeded to observe the motorcycle riders.

According to the prosecution, Nunekpeku, the pillion rider, removed an object from his clothing, causing the complainant to move his car closer the motorcycle. The riders ran fast into the darkness.

The complainant contacted a police patrol squad in the vicinity, who pursued the culprits. Nunekpeku was captured with a machete hidden in his T-shirt, but Dickson escaped on the motorcycle.

The complainant named Nunekpeku as the pillion rider. He was escorted to the Amasaman Divisional CID and a formal complaint was filed.

During police inquiry, Nunekpeku revealed his accomplice's first name, Dickson, but did not assist detectives in identifying him. Following an investigation, Nunekpeku was charged with the offenses.

The case is still under investigation as police look for the fugitive accomplice.
