George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, has expressed his thoughts on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's resolve to graciously concede defeat after the 2024 general election.

Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, addressed the nation the day after the December 7 election, acknowledging his defeat to former President John Dramani Mahama. According to Ricketts-Hagan, this was a pivotal milestone in Dr. Bawumia's political career.

"He has been quite successful in one regard," Ricketts-Hagan stated. "He's earned the label 'digital guy,' and he was eager to admit his failure. Before Jean Mensa could announce the results, he had already conceded defeat. "At the very least, his digital approach worked for him there," he told TV3.

The Cape Coast South MP also praised Ghanaians for their right decision to reject Dr. Bawumia during the polls. He added that, while Dr. Bawumia gave convincing economic lectures, his inability to translate them into actual results cost him the trust of voters.

"We witnessed the effort he put into his economic presentations, but it was evident he couldn't follow through on them. I did not anticipate him to succeed, and I was not mistaken. Good presentations alone do not make someone capable. If economics were only about statistics and polished presentations, anyone with a background in the field might succeed. "What really matters is practical implementation, and that's where he fell short," Ricketts-Hagan said.

The MP's remarks reflect his opinion that the electorate made the correct decision in valuing leadership with a demonstrated ability to turn ideas into action over hyperbole and theoretical understanding.
