Former Subin MP Eugene Boakye Antwi has sharply criticized the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) leadership structure, claiming that party officials were reduced to mere bystanders in critical campaign decisions.

In an honest interview, Boakye Antwi detailed how the party's top officials, including the national chairman, general secretary, and national organizer, were sidelined during the 2024 election campaign.

"When we designate a flagbearer, they assemble their own campaign team and completely ignore the party executives. These officials, who are supposed to represent the party's interests, end up watching from the sidelines. "What exactly were their roles in the campaign?" Boakye Antwi inquired.

The outspoken former MP advised against repeating the blunders that resulted in the party's defeat in the 2024 elections. He highlighted that future flagbearers should not have complete control over the party organization.

"The truth is that in this nation, once someone becomes president, they are untouchable. They control job appointments and resources, so no one wants to anger them. "This has had a negative impact on our party's structure," he explained.

Boakye Antwi advocated for significant reforms to the party's operations, emphasizing the importance of a clear communication route between the flagbearer and party leadership. "We need a genuine collaboration between the party and the government. "The next flagbearer must realize they can't run a one-man show," he said.

He emphasized how the concentration of power in one person has undermined the party's traditional checks and balances. "The national executives are meant to be the foundation of our party, but they've been reduced to mere ornaments. This must alter if we want to avoid repeat defeats," Boakye Antwi said.

The former MP asked that the party set clear procedures to guarantee future flagbearers collaborate with party leaders rather than marginalizing them in critical decision-making processes.
