According to reports, the Manhyia South Constituency Chairman, Ofori Atta-Tomtom, and the Constituency Organizer, Alhaji Abubakari, also known as Alhaji Aboba, are about to be suspended by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for actions that are thought to be against the party's interests. Following what party executives refer to as "anti-party behavior" by the two leaders, this decision was made.

During a recent parliamentary vetting session, Alhaji Abubakari chastised Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman. Wontumi's failure to recognize the contributions made by Manhyia South MP Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh to the party's operations in the Ashanti Region was the source of the criticism. The National Organizer had already praised Dr. Opoku Prempeh for supporting his successful campaign, therefore this omission infuriated Alhaji Abuba.

The national executives of the party have decided to suspend Alhaji Abubakari because they believe his remarks were improper. The purpose of this move is to warn other members about the repercussions of openly opposing party leadership and unity.

Similarly, the chairman of the Manhyia South Constituency is suspended after he accused the party's head of ignoring reported disparaging remarks against Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He further urged the Ashanti people to hold Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer, responsible for allegedly downplaying the problem. Party officials believe that these remarks, which were expressed in radio interviews, are detrimental to their cohesiveness and reputation.

The NPP insists that such behavior cannot be accepted within its ranks, even if the Kumasi Traditional Council has arbitrated and settled some of the conflicts, including reversing curses that Wontumi is said to have invoked.

Chairman Wontumi's supporters are preparing a news conference in reaction to what they say is a concerted attempt to damage his reputation. To weaken the party's leadership and reputation in the Ashanti Region, they want to expose those they suspect of planning these attacks.
