The NDC's Joseph Yammin oversaw Operation Recover. All plundered valuables were intercepted once more in the house of Adansi North District Chief Executive in Fomena, Ashanti Region, during an intelligence operation.
The Adansi North DCE, Eric Kwaku Kusi, verified to our news team that the fertilizers were delivered to his residence for safekeeping by the Member of Parliament for Fomena Constituency, Andrew Asiamah, who also serves as Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, two days before the 2024 elections.
He stated, "My MP informed me the fertilizers were delivered for his campaign activities, but they arrived late. So he advised me to keep it in my house until after the elections, when he would come get it and distribute it to the farmers. "I called the MP and he spoke with the NDC security team that came here," he explained.
According to NDC Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer Osman Nabali, the same intelligence led to the discovery of over 10,000 fertilizers in an unassuming building in the Sokoban and Danyame residential neighborhoods last week.
Osman Nabali characterized the hoarding of government-supplied fertilizers as sad.
Andrew Asiamah, the Second Deputy Speaker, verified the package belonged to him in a phone call with the team on December 23, but declined to provide any other information.
According to Nabali, the fertilizers, acquired by the outgoing government to assist farmers and lower the cost of food production, were discovered at the aforementioned place just days before the elections.
"We went to the place and established that the fertilizer was hidden there. It begs the question of whether the residence belongs to him or to someone related to him," Nabali said.
The NDC youth leader expressed dissatisfaction with the purported behavior, which he alleges is part of a larger conspiracy by outgoing administration officials to undermine the incoming government.
"Rather than giving these fertilisers to farmers as promised, they have hoarded them to sell at excessive prices later. "This is a deliberate attempt to make the new government suffer," Nabali claimed.
He also condemned the action, claiming that it hinders efforts to help farmers and offer affordable food to Ghanaians.
"The government paid a lot of money to get these fertilizers to help agriculture, yet some people prioritize personal gain over national benefit. Farmers are being denied resources that could help them succeed," he said.
Nabali urged authorities to take immediate action, encouraging the next administration to enforce accountability and defend federal assets. He also emphasized the necessity to look into comparable practices across the country.
"These actions are inexcusable, particularly from a leader. This is more than just an NDC issue; it's about safeguarding Ghana's interests," he said.
