After Lydia Alhassan, the incumbent member of parliament and parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was spotted giving food packs to voters taking part in the special voting exercise, tensions in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency are high.

The MP distributed food to voters in line at the Legon Police Station, one of the constituency's designated special polling locations, with the help of her team.

John Dumelo, the constituency's National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, denounced the act as unlawful and against the Electoral Commission's (EC) regulations.

Dumelo was vehemently opposed, saying that such behavior compromises the process's fairness. He went on to say that he could carry out comparable actions on a far bigger scale if he so desired.

"Why do you share food with others waiting in line? What are you doing? Does that imply that we can't also share food? We can agree as well, but let's abide by the Electoral Commission's regulations. If you are sharing food, we have no idea what it contains, and you are sharing to those in the line who haven't cast their ballots yet, don't share anything with them.

"What sort of ignorance is this? Why? Do they not believe we can succeed? We are capable of doing considerably worse. He cautioned, "They shouldn't even try us."

Dumelo, meanwhile, was upbeat about his chances of winning the constituency seat in the elections scheduled for December 7 before the vote.

In an interview with Citi News, Dumelo said he was pleased with how the voting process went and reaffirmed his belief that he would win when the results were announced.
