According to a report by TV3 GH today, police in Accra, Ghana, apprehended a guy suspected of driving a religion after he was discovered hiding two kidnapped schoolchildren in his home.
The suspect, Kofi Mensah, was apprehended by neighborhood specialists during a raid on his residence in Accra's central district.
The children, 12-year-old Kwame Addo and 10-year-old Ama Nyarko, were reported missing two days earlier by their families.
According to police, the children were last seen leaving their school in Adabraka before mysteriously disappearing.
Concerned guardians and local residents immediately alerted the police, resulting in an intense pursuit.
Boss Examiner Daniel Owusu, who led the action, made sense of what happened.
"We had reliable information from a suspicious neighbor about odd activities at Mr. Mensah's residence. Following up on this tip, we raided the property and discovered the two children trapped inside a room."
When confronted by the police, Kofi Mensah claimed he was "protecting" the children.
"I was simply protecting them from harm," he explained during his capture. In any event, the police haven't found any evidence to support his cases.
Overall, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect may have intended to include the children for ceremonial purposes.
Ama Nyarko, one of the rescued children, told the police with sadness, "He warned us not to address anyone and that we would be safe with him. I simply need to reconnect to my family."
Residents of the area expressed shock and disgust at the occurrence.
"I've known Kofi Mensah for a long time, but I never thought he'd do something like this," said Josephine Adjei, a neighbor.
"We want to safeguard our youngsters from individuals like him."
The police have assured the people that a fair decision will be made.
"We are taking this matter extremely seriously," stated Boss Examiner Owusu.
"Guardians ought to stay watchful and report any dubious exercises in their networks."
Kwame and Ama have been brought reunited with their families, who have expressed gratitude to the police and neighborhood residents for their swift action.
Kofi Mensah is currently in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court soon to face charges of kidnapping and endangering children.
