Patricia Apeagyei, the departing Dep. Majority, and Nana Ayew Afriye, MP for Effiduase/Asokore
As a result of harsh criticism from Nana Ayew Afriye, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, a rift has emerged inside the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
bringing attention to underlying conflicts and discontent.
Afriye specifically attacked party leaders for allegedly ignoring the Ashanti Region, a longtime NPP bastion, including Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, and National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye.
He claimed that the importance of the area has been undervalued in favor of gaining a seat in Parliament as a deputy minority leader.
Despite the Ashanti Region's vital contributions to the party, Afriye expressed frustration over its marginalization, claiming that it does not have enough leadership positions or sway over important topics.
In a post on an NPP Members of Parliament page under the group name "Official MPs and PCs Platform," Afriyie said, "No one should be happy about the enormity of betrayal to Ashanti by some selfish few of us and the selling of strength and rightful position in leadership to other regional caucuses."
Patricia Appiagyei was singled out by the politician-turned-medical professional, who said, "You are a very selfish and a big betrayal to Ashanti caucus and council." Instead of what we all stand for, it's all about you.
He went on to say: "Mama Pat: You are a huge betrayer to the Ashanti council and caucus and very self-centered. Instead of what we all stand for, it's all about you. Ashanti united and took the minority in 2008 after we lost elections.
For only a deputy leader, you, Koduah, and Nana B have sold us the area with the biggest caucus today.
at addition, he expressed disapproval of Appiagyei's participation at the caucus meeting, asking, "Why didn't you support the leader so that the issue might have been resolved? You remained present until we had decided what we wanted.
The MP expressed his anger and displeasure with the party's decision-making process, claiming that it has caused the Ashanti Region to be marginalized.
The Ashanti Region's underrepresentation in important leadership positions was highlighted by Ayew Afriye.
Ashanti is still unfit to serve as a Chief Whip or leader because of our hardships. So what's the point of us being reduced to the position of deputy minority leader?" he said.
He chastised Patricia Appiagyei, the MP for Asokwa, once more for taking on the position of Deputy Minority Leader.
"You have never led a business or talked on the floor about any topic from this position. For a prestigious company like ours, this is a disgraceful position," Afriye raged.
