The government of Equatorial Guinea has swiftly removed Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), from his post because of his involvement in a high-profile sex scandal, according to Vanguard News ¹. After nearly 400 intimate films of Engonga with several women—including his relatives and the wives of high-ranking officials—were posted online, the scandal was made public.

"Irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct" were the reasons given by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo for Engonga's termination. This action comes after officials found the incriminating footage during a search of Engonga's home and workplace as part of an investigation into suspected fraud.

The tapes, which were purportedly shot in hotels, restrooms, and Engonga's office, have caused a great deal of indignation and questioned the legitimacy of Equatorial Guinea's leadership. Engonga's acts have been denounced by First Lady Constancia Mangue Obiang, who claims that the incident is "distorting" the nation's women's reputation and image.

The administration has responded to the controversy by announcing plans to equip all government offices with security cameras in order to stop future occurrences. Manuel Nsue, the prime minister, has promised to take responsibility for the mistake and put controls in place to stop it from happening again.
