Following a Supreme Court verdict that invalidated the process, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin pronounced the Electoral Commission's (EC) re-collation effort in some constituencies to be unlawful.

During a speech at a parliamentary function on Saturday, December 28, Bagbin noted that the court's judgment saved him from the arduous task of swearing in candidates whose victories were mistakenly proclaimed during the re-collation process. The court rejected the re-collated results for four constituencies—Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South—rejecting the EC's initial pronouncements for these districts.

However, the court upheld the re-collated results for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano North, leaving those results unchanged by the decision.

Bagbin emphasized that any candidates deemed winners following the re-collation exercise would be barred from being sworn into office. He insisted that the legal process be followed, noting that candidates must be elected by voters, declared by the EC, and legally sworn in by the Speaker before taking on the job of Member of Parliament. "Until you are sworn in by the Speaker, you remain MP-elect," Bagbin told reporters.

The 8th Parliament will conclude on January 7, with members of the 9th Parliament taking the oath of office on the same day.
