The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially issued the tentative results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a statement made on Monday, December 30, 2024, the Council stated that 4,108 candidates' subject results were cancelled, while 781 candidates' results were withheld. Of those whose results were completely canceled, 483 were found guilty of possessing mobile phones in the examination hall, while the remaining 209 had their results withheld for other alleged violations.

Candidates can get their results on WAEC's official website.

A thorough examination of the data demonstrates an overall deterioration in performance in three main subjects—English Language, Integrated Science, and Social Studies—when compared to the previous year. However, performance in Core Mathematics remained stable, with no notable declines.

Furthermore, applicants' results from 319 schools have been withheld due to allegations of collusion. These instances are presently being investigated, and the withheld results will be revealed or annulled depending on the findings of the ongoing investigation.

The alleged malpractices include the use of forbidden items such as prepared notes, printed materials, and mobile phones in the exam room, as well as instances of candidate collaboration. Some of these operations were allegedly carried out with the assistance of some supervisors and school administrators.
