To improve the quality of candidates' results, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has established a new mechanism that allows senior secondary pupils to retake their WASSCE examination papers.
On Tuesday, December 31, 2025, WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, made this statement during a JoyNews AM Radio Show in Ghana.
According to Kapi, the project represents a paradigm shift from the previous system, which compelled students to wait until the next cycle of examinations to make up for their assignments.
Kapi stated that the new approach, known as WASSCE PC1, will allow candidates to expedite their admission process and improve their grades.
His words, "Students who access their results now and realize they need to retake one or two papers have until January 8th to register online on our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés. The exams will take conducted from January 24th to February 15th, 2025.
He also stated that the top examiners' reports would be released more quickly in order to assist applicants in preparing for their tests.
According to him, the reports would provide detailed feedback that students may use to better their study habits and examination procedures.
He elaborated: "We've advertised this programme widely through banners, our website, and our results checker platform to ensure that both students and parents are aware."
Candidates who did not pass their WAEC exams or whose results were canceled are allowed to retake them.
Those who have been prohibited for any sort of wrongdoing, on the other hand, are ineligible to retake their examination papers.
"Due to a restricted number of candidates, exams will be held in regional capitals for the time being. Prospective participants are encouraged to finish their registration by January 8th to take advantage of this opportunity," Kapi added.
