The scanning of objective answer sheets for the recently finished West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will start today, according to confirmation from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Following the government's discharge of GH¢25 million as part of the outstanding debt, certain crucial scanning machines were successfully repaired earlier today.

Mr. Kapi stated in an interview on Joy FM's Newsnight on Monday, December 23, that the council was able to start the process, albeit more slowly, after the technicians were able to get three of the equipment required for the job back up and running.

The scanning of the objective response cards will begin tonight after we've made some adjustments to some of the devices that aren't quite working. And they're not, you know, completely fit, so we have to run slowly," he revealed.

Despite the fact that staff members were initially on Christmas break, the council is working extremely hard to meet its deadlines. WAEC has recalled certain staff to help with the process due to the urgency of finishing the scanning and making sure the results are released," he continued.

He added that the exam council has hired examiners to carefully review the scripts of applicants who have been warned for potential exam misconduct in addition to scanning.

WAEC has emphasized the need for extra financial support to finish all areas of the results processing, even if some monies have been received to support ongoing work.

Repairing more devices, paying supervisors and invigilators, and acquiring more bandwidth to publish the results online are all examples of critical costs.

"The government has assured us that additional funding will be made available shortly. But we might have delays if this doesn't occur," he warned.
