Police in Wenchi, Bono Region, shot and killed a suspected armed robber during a gunfight on the Wenchi-Wa Highway.
The event occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 28, 2024, at around 3:40 a.m., when four armed criminals allegedly engaged the police patrol squad in a gunfight.
According to an eyewitness, when the police patrol team arrived at the location, the suspected thieves opened fire on the policemen.
The police returned fire and killed one of the bandits, while the other three fled into the jungle.
The police discovered a locally built single-barrel rifle, six BB cartridges, an undisclosed quantity of money, and a student bag with two Itel mobile phones and a power bank, all of which were presumed to be stolen.
According to reports, the police patrol squad was alerted about armed robbers attacking commuters on a stretch of road near Awisa, a farming village in Wenchi Municipality.
When the cops arrived, the criminals had already robbed passengers on a Sprinter minibus and a Yutong bus.
The police are still investigating and have launched a manhunt to apprehend the culprits who fled.
