Dr. Mahmud Bawumia, the vice president and leader of the ruling NPP, has drawn criticism for his recent remarks regarding the economy. On November 28, 2024, Dr. Bawumia spoke at the Greater Accra Region's Krowor Constituency.
"In the absence of a global crisis, the cedi depreciation rate under the NDC was 74%. Even in the face of a worldwide crisis, it is 72% under the NPP. He denied allegations of currency mismanagement by his government.
Several commenters have responded negatively to Dr. Bawumia's remarks.
"The blame game is too much for these individuals. Even as adults, you are unable of accepting accountability for your deeds and are constantly looking for someone to blame." Someone left a comment.
A different user wrote:
"In 2016, Ghanaians hoped that if there would be a discussion on cedi/dollar, we would be talking about how the cedi appreciates against the dollar, not comparing two failures to know which one failed miserably and looking for a dump reason to justify it."
Dr. Bawumia's comment drew a lot of criticism.
"NDC was servicing public debts in dollars but did 74%, Bawumia and his failed 'solid' EMT is not paying public debts yet depreciation is 72% and he's bragging about it?" . An additional user was added.
A different user asked a question;
"America was impacted by the global crisis, right? We all experienced the same issues, so why did their currency still have more sway over us? America actually faced a more terrible crisis than we did. Your comparison analysis is invalid, Dr. Bawumia. Or, in accordance with your argument, the NDC government faced no difficulties?"
