The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denounced as "scandalous" the Education Minister's claim that the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results will be announced on December 29, 2024, as reported by Ghana Web on Wednesday, December 25, 2025.
WAEC's Director of Public Affairs, John Kapi, disputed the report as false and unsubstantiated. According to Kapi, there was no formal discussion or agreement between WAEC and the Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, to confirm such a schedule.
"The minister came to our offices, examined the machines, and saw several procedures. However, there was no official agreement to set or convey a certain release date," Kapi said in an interview with Starr FM.
He criticized the Minister's announcement, citing concern that it could set misleading expectations for applicants and their families.
"This concerns people's futures. We also have colleagues with children awaiting the results, so this impacts everyone. To confront the difficulties, we must be honest and work together," he said.
WAEC has faced difficulties in publishing results because to logistical issues and government indebtedness of over GH¢100 million.
These difficulties have slowed the processing of results for approximately 460,000 applicants nationwide.
Despite this, Dr. Adutwum informed the public earlier this week that WAEC is making progress and that the results would be available by December 29.
However, WAEC maintains that no such timeframe is guaranteed, advocating transparency and collaboration to tackle the difficulties hindering the release.
