Making headlines is nothing new for Hajia Bintu, a prominent character in Ghanaian social media. She recently caused a stir when she promoted "Kayamata," a line of goods that she says can improve one's attractiveness, draw in partners, or strengthen interpersonal connections through purportedly spiritual ways.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) took notice of this and noted that they are not legally tasked with monitoring products that make spiritual claims. After some 'concerned' people voiced concerns with her advertisements, this correction was made.
With a new video that features the hashtag "fashionnovacurve," Hajia Bintu is currently generating news once more. On social media, this video is trending, but not all of the attention is good. While some viewers are commenting on her appearance, almost 90% of viewers are criticizing her for what they perceive to be her desperate attempt to become a brand spokesperson.
Netizens claim that Hajia Bintu regularly tags Fashion Nova, a well-known online women's fashion retailer, in videos she uploads. Many think she's trying to attract their attention in order to land a big brand ambassador contract with the corporation. It is believed that she can make some money with this tactic.
A combination of conversations and some critical comments regarding her appearance make up the remaining 10% of comments. Here are some comments made by users:
User 1: "See breast wey fall like London bridge. I don’t see anything interesting about this lady ooo."
User 2: "Miss Enny dey pressure dem. After all, they are realizing boozin is not all that cute."
