Former Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection Adwoa Safo

Adwoa Safo, the former Member of Parliament for Dome/Kwabenya, was allegedly stopped from leaving her home for a planned radio appearance by some senior members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

During her recent media tour, Adwoa Safo spoke with a number of media outlets to voice her concerns with what she claims is ongoing unfair treatment. This is in spite of the fact that she already apologized to the party and her constituents for her extended absence due to family matters.

On Friday, March 21, 2025, she was supposed to appear on Kessben TV/FM in Accra for an interview. However, as watchers and listeners waited for the interview, it never happened, leaving them unsatisfied.

Kwame Appiah Kubi, often known as Mr. Speaker, the show's host, was forced to inform his audience of the issue as the delay persisted.

As she prepared to leave her house for the interview, Adwoa Safo got into her car. However, three Land Cruisers unexpectedly blocked her way as she got closer to her gate. Senior NPP officials in these cars contended that she would not be permitted to go for the interview. Therefore, I regret to notify everyone who was hoping to hear from Adwoa Safo that the NPP leadership has ambushed her in her own home," the host said.

Due to her recent remarks in the media about the NPP's performance in the 2024 elections, Adwoa Safo has been sent to the National Disciplinary Committee by the party.

The NPP previously warned party members against making public remarks that would cause rifts within the party, and this action comes after that warning.

Adwoa Safo's comments disregarded party guidelines and hampered reconstruction efforts, according to a statement released by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

"As far as she is aware, the order makes it clear that no party member may use media to discuss internal party matters in a way that encourages discontent, negativity, or disenchantment. Her actions jeopardize the party's attempts to rebuild in addition to disobeying this directive.

As a former member of parliament, deputy majority leader, and minister of state in the last NPP government, she was supposed to lead by example by adhering to the values of unity, discipline, and loyalty that characterize our wonderful party.

Not only does her refusal to do so reflect poorly on her, but it also violates Article 3(5) of the Party's constitution, which requires members to uphold and defend the party's reputation, among other things.

"In light of this violation, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo is hereby referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party for further action."
