Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has ascribed KT Hammond's surprising defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections on a lack of understanding of what his constituents desired.
According to him, the former Trade and Industry Minister was unseated because he was unable to meet his constituency's fundamental infrastructure needs, such as public restrooms.
After more than two decades of domination, KT Hammond was beaten by Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi, the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) candidate, in a closely contested campaign that drew national attention.
In a stunning electoral upset, KT Hammond, who has represented the Adansi Asokwa Constituency in Parliament since 2001, received 13,275 votes, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani, received 14,229 votes, making him the new MP-elect for the constituency.
In an interview with Serwaa Amihere on Accra-based GHone TV, Frank Amoakohene stated that KT Hammond had lost contact with his constituents and did not know what they wanted.
He asserted unequivocally that no community in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency had a public toilet, illustrating KT Hammond's incapacity to meet the basic requirements of the people.
"KT Hammond lost his seat because to public restrooms. There is no community in his constituency with public restrooms. "He was out of touch with his people and didn't understand what they needed," he claimed.
Meanwhile, Dr Frank Amoakohene claimed that the NDC Executives in the Ashanti Region made significant efforts to increase the party's presidential and legislative votes.
