According to TV3GH, Accra police officers challenged and killed six men whom they identified as some of the city's most known criminals.
Based on community allegations and persistent monitoring, authorities tracked the group down to a concealed hideout on the outskirts of Accra.
When cops arrived, the suspects opened fire, causing the police to act decisively.
"These criminals have terrorized our neighborhoods for far too long," said Police Commander Kwesi Annan.
He stressed that these men were responsible for a series of violent robberies that had caused dread and alarm among Accra citizens.
Commander Annan stated that the group had been on the police radar for months due to many complaints linking them to armed robbery, assault, and even attempted kidnappings.
"We had to act fast to keep the peace," she said.
The police operation began with officers surrounding the suspects' hideout, a rundown house in a remote part of the city.
However, when the officers announced their presence, the gang members allegedly fired rounds, refusing to surrender peacefully.
According to police sources, a shootout broke out, lasting several minutes and terminating only when the final armed gang member was shot down.
One officer, who requested anonymity, detailed the intensity of the interaction.
"They were well-armed and determined to battle. But we were prepared. "We came to ensure that this was their last stand," he explained.
Fortunately, no police personnel were hurt during the operation.
Following the confrontation, police discovered a number of weapons at the area, including handguns, ammo, and machetes thought to have been used in the gang's recent attacks.
Investigators are also looking into whether these suspects were involved in other violent crimes recorded in various locations of Ghana.
Residents in the region expressed relief after the police news.
"We have lived in fear for far too long," remarked one local. "It feels good to know that these criminals have been stopped."
