The polls have officially ended at most polling stations across Ghana, with sorting and counting of ballots now underway. At the Achimota Market Polling Center 1, emotions ran high as votes were tallied.
Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) erupted into cheers when it became evident that their candidate, John Dramani Mahama, had won by pulling 153 votes, closely followed by Vice President Bawumia and the NPP with 123 votes.
Movement for Change’s Alan Kyeremanten had 1 vote while Ghana Union Movement led by Osofo Kyiri Abosom received 3 votes. There were 3 rejected ballots.
Counting and results declaration are underway following the closure of polls at 5pm across most of the polling centres in the country.
The 2024 elections took place across 276 constituencies in the country, with the process being largely peaceful.
Pockets of violence have, however, been recorded, with one person confirmed dead in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region.
The EC has meanwhile urged Ghanaians and political parties to exercise patience as they execute their mandate of delivering a successful election.
