Demonstrating resilience and an unwavering commitment to education, thirty-four prisoners are participating in this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This examination marks the transition from Junior High School to Senior High School and Technical Institutions.
The candidates, all male, are distributed across various correctional facilities in the country. The group includes 27 juveniles from the Senior Correctional Centre (SCC), 5 inmates from Nsawam Maximum Security Prison, and 2 from Sunyani Central Prison.
Meanwhile, a total of 569,095 candidates are sitting for this year's exam, which began on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 2,123 designated centers across the country. The exams will conclude on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Ahead of the start, the Ghana Education Service (GES) congratulated the candidates and expressed gratitude to teachers, heads of schools, directors of education, parents, and stakeholders for their support. The GES also urged all involved to avoid examination malpractice, stating that measures are in place to ensure smooth conduct.
The Senior High School selection process will commence after the BECE, with details to be communicated later.
