Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

A Lecturer with the University of Education Winneba Kumasi Campus, Yarhans Arthur is advocating for abolition of the system where students are mandated to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) before they can gain entry requirements to enter Senior High Schools (SHSs).

“Redefining of basic education should give every school going child the opportunity to enter public Senior High School without any entrance requirements”, the Lecturer stated.

“Fee education does not mean people be restricted from getting admission into public Senior High Schools (SHSs)”

” So if Nana Akufo-Addo and government say they should be free education, then the BECE should not be entry requirements to get admission into public SHSs Remember that in this country, we already have the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) which means one should have quality education standards”, he averred.

The arithmetic lecturer who doubles as National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator during a discussion pointed out that government policy to make education free should not be sacrificed for quality.

Mr. Yarhans Arthur however stated that NDC as a socialist political party is not against the implementation of free education but wants NPP government to it do well by extending the program to all private SHSs in the country.
