The Dean of Students Affairs at the University of Ghana, Prof. Godfred Bokpin, says that an agreement has been reached with private hostel managers on campus to allow students to continue to reside on campus even though the school has been closed until further notice.
The closure of the school is in accordance with a directive from President Akufo-Addo.
he directive is part of the government’s measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Speaking to Univers News, Prof. Bokpin was hopeful that students would decide to stay on campus.
However, he said says that students who so desire to vacate campus should get medical clearance before.
“We encourage our students to stay on campus so we are able to monitor the situation and also to contain the situation. More importantly, we do not want any situation where anyone who may be carrying the virus will go into communities and begin to spread them,” he said.
He added that “We have been in contact with the private hostels as well and we have asked them and they have cooperated very well that any student who is in any private hostel on campus should be allowed to stay if the person wants to stay. But if any student wants to go home, then our recommendation is that they should get some kind of a medical clearance before they can go.”
