The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has come to the defence of President Akufo-Addo regarding his alleged public nap in Russia three days ago, saying that even if the president slept, he is not a “plugged machine”.
In an interview on Hello FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the Nsawam MP added that he did not see the president sleep after watching the video in circulation.
Akufo-Addo attended a two-day Summit in Russia, under the theme “For Peace, Security and Development,” which seeks to deepen ties of friendship between Russia and Africa.
The NPP MP also debunked comments that Akufo-Addo went to Russia and came empty-handed. He said getting aid or support is a process and that those presidents who came back from Russia with goodies might have started the process long before the summit.
“Akufo-Addo is negotiating for a better deal, you can’t go to Russia and carry anything see. It is a process.”
“It is not true that Akufo-Addo went to Russia to sleep. The fact that someone went to bring helicopters doesn’t mean someone else didn’t do anything. Before someone can go and take helicopters, the negotiations began long ago.” he explained.
Defending Akufo-Addo Mr Annor Dompreh said even young men like him who are 40 and 45 years old do doze off at events and to him, it is no big deal even if the president dozed.
“Yes, I have seen the video. You let me ask you, did you see him sleeping? Did you see his head on a pillow? He is a little beyond 80.. 70 years … Please. Granted he dozed off in public, is he not human?”, he asked.
He added that “we young men who are 40, 45 years don’t we doze off at events? Let’s us not create the impression is a machine that is plugged. And he is human. He is a human being. Besides, I didn’t see him sleep.”
