Accra, Aug. 18, GNA - The Police on Monday explained that a man identified as Emmanuel Lartey, believed to be a brother to one Lt-Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey (pictured) of the Ghana Armed Forces was allegedly attacked by armed robbers on Saturday at the Shai Hills area on the Tema-Akuse road.
A statement signed by Mr David Eklu, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Director of Police Relations said; "so far police investigation has not established any political motive for the attack."
Recently Lt-Col Gbevlo Lartey hit the headlines for being quizzed in connection with a coup plot.
The statement said the Tema Police are conducting investigations to trace a group of armed robbers who attacked travellers at Shai Hills on the Tema-Akuse motor road on Saturday August 16.
It said a report by four women, who were returning from Kpando market said a group of unidentified men wearing masks stopped their vehicle with registration number BA 1395 C, attacked them and collected all their monies and that the robbers also shot a man whose identity they did not know.
It said enquiries by the Police revealed that one of the victims was sent to the 37 Military Hospital by a good Samaritan who was identified only as Emmanuel Lartey, who could not give any further information to Police because of his critical condition.
Investigation revealed that the man refused to stop when ordered to do so by the robbers, one of whom chase and shot him. The Police said they are vigorously pursuing all possible clues to trace the armed robbers and have appealed to the public to inform them on the related issue.
