Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong is a long way from ceasing his ‘fits’ even with a suit from the camp of investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The NPP firebrand has been on the neck of Anas since he hinted of his latest documentary; ‘Number 12’ which dwells on revealing the rots in Ghanaian Football.
In his most recent outbursts, Mr. agyapong calls the bluff of the journalist who has filed a GHC25 million suit against him for defamation. Describing the amount stated in the suit as sheer ‘peanuts’, he argued that he is the least perturbed by the move, adding that it in no way will dissuade him from making the damning revelations he promised in a video he tags ‘Who watches the watchman’.
He, in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM said the quoted GHC25 million is nothing compares to the kind of money he (Ken Agyapong) spends.
‘’I am not afraid of Anas. I will display cash. I will display cash. GHc25 million, I sit on that sh*t. That is a peanut. I am not afraid of Anas”
‘’I am ready for Anas. I am not afraid of him. GHc25 million is nothing. So Anas is demanding for GHc25 million? He is so cheap. The amount a peanut.’’
The maverick politician is even more ready than ever to face Anas in court he says, considering that the same person who denied being the face in the photo’s released by him prior to the premiering of the documentary.
“I will face him in court with my evidence. You will see the number of people who will bring their evidence against him. Is he [Anas] God? What is his case? Is he not the one denying that he is not the one I published? Anas said he was not the one”.
Kweku Baako said he was not the one. So who is the ghost that took me to court? You have denied categorically that you are not the person… So who is this Anas?
‘’I will make myself dirty before paying the money….I will disgrace some people before paying this money,’’ he said. Mr Agyapong said he was yet to be served with the writ but he was ready to face him in court "in style”, he said.
Background
Ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has filed a defamation suit against Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong.
The TigerEye PI head whose latest investigative peice has sparked public uproar and shaken the foundations of Ghana football is suing the New Patriotic Party member for 25 million cedis for libellous comments allegedly made by Mr Agyapong.
The suit follows weeks of media attacks by the MP against the investigative journalist in an attempt to stop him from airing the documentary “Number 12,” Anas’ investigative piece detailing corruption in Ghana football.
Even though the documentary largely covers bribery and corruption in football, the MP’s name and that of the leading members of the governing party were mentioned by the Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi in a manner that was not complimentary.
Meanwhile, the GFA says it is in talks with the worldwide football body; FIFA over the issue.
Embattled President of the Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi in the meantime has resigned and rendered an unqualified apology to the President Akufo-Addo and the entire Ghanaian population. He has however hinted of a pressconference in coming days to clarify some of the issues raised in the expose.
