The Aowin Municipal Assembly located in the newly created Western North Region has organized its second edition of the 'Meet The Press Series' to showcase government programmes, projects, policies and activities.
Meet the press series is one of the platforms of engaging the media houses to brief them what government has done, about to do and intended doing.
Addressing the media, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Aowin, Mr. Samuel Adu-Gyamfi who recently won the overall best Municipal Chief Executive in His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa’s administration said 'Meet the Press and townhall meetings were aimed at educating the general public on government flagship programs and key projects being implemented across the country.
He said a total of fourty-two (42) development projects together with other programs initiated by the Municipal Assembly and the central government were currently ongoing in the Municipality and were at various stages of completion.
Mr. Adu-Gyamfi said the government scholarship scheme which was introduced by the government in 2018, a total of sixty-Nine (69) youth from the Municipality in various tertiary institutions in the country were presently benefitting under the scheme for the 2019/2020 academic year.
He reiterated that more youth would benefit under the scheme next academic year.
The MCE said government was making efforts to award Mile‘4’-Ellubo road to a Chinese construction company; "the procurement process will be completed for the contractor to be awarded for work to start on the road", he said.
"Let me make a passionate appeal to the good people of the southern part of the constituency and indeed the good people of the Municipality to continue to exercise restraint and keep faith with the government as it works round the clock to fix to road", he added.
He said as he indicated that the Aowin Municipality was to get Regional Feeder Roads Office and two apartments to accommodate officials of the department, the contract for the construction of the projects had been awarded and the contractor has moved to site and work has started and was progressing steadily.
On livelihood empowerment against poverty eradication program, the MCE said, a total number of 1,698 households are benefiting from the programme.
"The beneficiary of the programme increased from 493 to 1,698 due to the expansion of the programme in 2018. An increase of 1,205 beneficiaries", he concluded.
