A group calling itself Friends of Kennedy Agyapong (FOKA) have called on the police to arrest investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas for alleged corrupt practices.
The call comes on the heels of the premier of Assin Central MPs documentary titled: “Who Watches The Watchman”, on Wednesday, 27 June 2018 on his NET 2 TV.
In the video, a gentleman in glasses, who the narration claims is Anas, was captured having a discussion with a woman, whom the narrator alleged was a State Attorney.
During the discussions between the two, the gentleman was heard saying: “So at that time, they buy me with hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) because he somehow relates to me”.
According to Mr Agyapong, “Who Watches The Watchman” is a compilation of “dubious” activities of Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which, according to him, prove that the brain behind the Number 12 exposé which uncovered rot within the Ghana Football Association, is, himself, corrupt.
The gentleman in the video was also shown negotiating with two gentlemen on how to get them off the hook in a supposed gold scam.
Following the video, FOKA in a statement said Anas should be arrested and the fresh investigation opened into the case.
Below is the full statement:
PRESS RELEASE
ANAS AREMEYAW ANAS, FORMER DIRECTOR GENERAL OF CID, ADU OPOKU AND THE PROSECUTOR HANDLED HAFIZ ALLEGED SCAM CASE MUST BE ARRESTED.
FRIENDS OF KENNEDY AGYAPONG wish to thank all Ghanaians especially those who came to watch Mr. Kennedy Agyapong’s video titled “Who Watches The Watchman” in front of Kencity building at Medina in the Greater Accra region.
The video as it stands now has threw more lights on the earlier position of the group that Mr Anas Aremeyaw Anas is not an angel from heaven as he wants people to believe.
The video has again proved that Mr. Kennedy Agyapong is indeed a corruption fighter and someone who deserves National awards and recognition from the government.
On that note, we the members of FRIENDS OF KENNEDY AGYAPONG can boldly assure Hon. Agyapong that we are in support of his crusade every moment and any hour.
Mr. Ken Agyapong is a true patriot and he has unequivocally demonstrated that he is ready to fight for his country as far as the fight against corruption is concern.
We are really proud of him because what he is doing will go down into the history of this country; our children’s children will read about him as a true Ghanaian.
However there are some issues that we want to send across the length and breadth of this country.
After watching Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s video titled “Who Watches The Watchman” we FRIENDS OF KENNEDY AGYAPONG (FOKA) have come to a firm conclusion that the leader of the Tiger Eye Pi , Mr. Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Former Director General of CID, Adu Opoku and the Prosecutor who was handling the case involving one Hafiz who was alleged as a scammer must be arrested by the police.
In the video Anas mentioned that he has been bought by $100,000, he further said that he has given former Director General of CID, Mr Adu Opoku a hooping sum of $75,000 and the Prosecutor who was handling the case should also take $5000.
Attitude of this nature is very appalling and purely criminal as a result it should not be countenanced anywhere in this country.
We believe that a fresh investigation into the case will let Ghanaians know what transpired between these three aforementioned persons and also to know why the case went ‘Basaa’(the case didn’t come to its logical conclusion) as Mr. Kweku Baako, Editor In Chief of The New Crusading Guide Newspaper said it on one of the electronic news outlets couple of days ago.
FOKA has a strong conviction that, to start such investigation, it deem fit for those who were caught on the tape of Mr. Ken Agyapong be arrested to assist in the investigation.
We are also appealing to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Madam Gloria Akuffo to revisit the case because per the laws of this country, crime has no expiring date. Ghanaians deserve to know the TRUTH and as it stands, we Members of FRIEND OF KENNEDY AGYAPONG are of the view that money exchanged hands in the course of prosecuting Hafiz and his colleagues at the law Court.
Mr Kwaku Baako is known in this country as someone who deals with documents and facts so if such a person said “the case went ‘Basaa', then it is not out of place for ordinary Ghanaian who do not deal with documents as Mr Baako to know what really went wrong that the case went 'Basaa'.
We are not going to give the police CID the date that they should start investigating into the matter but we believe that the head of CID, Madam Tiwaah Addo will open fresh investigation into the matter in no time.
We are waiting on the Chief Justice and AG to take immediate action and the group is ready to explore other alternatives if immediate actions are not taken.
Thank you. Long Live FOKA Long Live Hon Kennedy Agyapong Long Live True Fighters of Corruption Long Live Our Mother Ghana
