Franklin Cudjoe, Founding President of IMANI Africa, has praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's recent pledges during the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) manifesto launch in Takoradi on August 18.

The NPP's flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, announced plans to cap ministerial appointments at 50 if elected president, a proposal Franklin Cudjoe praised as a "great move."

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia introduced several business-friendly policies, including a flat tax regime and direct incentives aimed at supporting business growth.

While Franklin Cudjoe commended the flat tax idea, acknowledging its potential impact if implemented effectively, he also noted some reservations.

He pointed out that while Dr. Bawumia admitted to economic challenges, he did not fully acknowledge the role of his government's fiscal policies in the current economic difficulties.

He also contested Dr. Bawumia's claims regarding unemployment rates, stating that the rate is now nearly four times higher than it was in 2016.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the issue of "Dumsor" had been resolved by December 2016, questioning its relevance in the 2024 context.

In a Facebook post, Franklin Cudjoe said “DMB admits economic challenges but falls short of acknowledging the role his government’s fiscal recklessness contributed to the atrophy.

“It is not true that the unemployment rate was higher in 2016 than now. It is almost 4× higher now.

“And Dumsor was solved by December 2016 so there was no need for it in 2024. His Flat Tax idea though will be impactful if implemented well. His pledge to govern with 50 ministers is a great move," he shared.
