The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Berekum East Constituency in the Bono Region, Mr. Simon Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, has observed that the people of Berekum have not benefited from any major development under the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, who was elected by popular acclamation on Saturday, said he was ever poised to lead the development agenda of the Berekum East Constituency, because the constituency has been under developed for the past twenty years under NPP governments.
He said: “The people of Berekum East have been rejected a lot under the previous and current NPP governments all these 20 years.”
Mr Ampaabeng Kyeremeh said the NPP members of Parliament have taken the people of Berekum for granted and have not supported the development of the area.
He challenged the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament to point to what he had done for the people of Berekum East.
Mr. Ampaabeng Kyeremeh stressed that Berekum town roads have deteriorated over the years; the people have had to complain all the time, but nothing has been done about them.
According to the parliamentary candidate, the NDC has never won the parliamentary seat for the past 20 years in the constituency, but said most of the major developmental projects found in Berekum were done by the NDC government, citing water projects, electricity, health facilities, education and roads as examples of such projects.
He said his confirmation by popular acclamation by the party executives and the delegates was an indication that the NDC was ready to redeem power from the NPP, since it can help the people of Berekum.
In the Berekum West Constituency, Mr. Dickson Kyere-Duah (Studgard), was elected the NDC parliamentary candidate for 2020. He polled 275 votes as against 176 garnered by his opponent, Mr. Daniel Owusu Brempong.
Speaking to the delegates after the election, Mr. Kyere Duah expressed his gratitude to all the delegates, including the Chairman of NDC for Berekum West, James Ntim, and his executives.
He also gave appreciated to the Regional and National Executives of the NDC, who made his dream achievable, and the police for helping maintain peace.
Mr. Kyere Dickson emphasised that “the win is for Berekum West NDC, and I plead with you all to start campaigning so that the target to win Berekum West can be materialized,” he said, and called for unity.
