Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has asked the Minority in Parliament to apologise to the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.
Members of Parliament on the minority side, National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Tuesday 5th February 2019 staged a walkout during the swearing-in of Lydia Alhassan, the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, on the floor of parliament, asked permission to boycott the swearing-in in order to solidarize with the victims of the violence that occurred at the La Bawaleshie polling centre during the election.
The minority, however, displayed placards with the inscription “bloody widow”, which suggested that the minority was actually against the swearing- in of the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Lydia Alhassan.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Monah, expressed his displeasure with the display of “bloody widow” placards in Parliament. He stated that the attack on the woman was below the belt since the woman was not responsible for the violence at Bawleshie
"I felt ashamed first as a Ghanaian and the fact that we have lost the sympathy that as Ghanaians we were supposed to show towards a woman who just lost the father of her 5 children. The woman is already traumatized and I don’t think she deserves that,” he said.
