Former Black Stars coach CK Akonnor has urged Ghanaians to throw their weight behind Otto Addo to succeed as the head coach of the Black Stars.

In his second stint, Otto Addo has made some bold decisions to leave out underperforming players from the squad, a decision that was met with mixed reactions. Despite this, he has succeeded in winning two matches in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, beating Mali and the Central African Republic.

Reacting to Otto Addo’s performance, CK Akonnor hailed his recent achievements and emphasised the need for national support for Otto Addo, urging Ghanaians to rally behind him and provide the backing necessary for his success.

Akonnor said, “I think, eventually, the fact that they have given him a long-term contract says it all. This is what we all hope for, meaning that he will have time to prepare this team for a long time, at least five years.”

“He needs our support; everybody must support him. What he has done in the last two matches, I think, is very hopeful; it looks like the future is bright. We need to support him, and whatever he believes is wrong, if he believes it is right, we need to support him to do it,” Akonnor added.

CK Akonnor was the coach of the Black Stars between 2020-2021.
