Catholic Church calls for policy on National Health Insurance

Sunyani, Dec 9, GNA - The National Catholic Health Services (NCHS) on Monday called on the government to develop a rational policy on the proposed health insurance scheme with the capacity of enlisting the support of all stakeholders for its implementation.

The Catholic body made the call in a fraternal message delivered on its behalf at the third Peer Review Conference of Ghana Network of Mutual Health Organisations (GNEMHO).

The message, read by Dr. Gilbert Buckle, Executive Secretary, Department of Health of the NCHS, gave the assurance that the NCHS would support activities such as alliance building, generating and sharing information, skills and capacity building and even assist in coordinating advocacy action on matters of concern and interest to mutual health organisations.

Dr. Buckle expressed the Catholic body's support for any policy objective that is aimed at improving the efficiency, equity and sustainability of the health care system in the country.

"Let us therefore try to obtain greater unity and understanding than ever before with an emphasis that the collective interest we have in the concept of health insurance would forever be the basis for sustained collective action and participation".
