Some aggrieved members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Subin Constituency in Kumasi are demanding an answer to why aspirant Frank Kwadow Duodu has been disqualified from the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
His name was omitted from the national final list of aspirants cleared by the party’s national parliamentary Vetting Committee to contest the party’s June 20th, 2020 primaries.
Five members of the constituency picked and filed their nomination for the primaries but the regional vetting committee after the exercise, cleared three aspirants from the constituency fit to contest including J.B Danquah, Frank Kwadow Duodu and the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency Eugine Boakye Antwi.
Months after the vetting, Frank Kwadow Duodu the KMA’s NADMO coordinator’s name was omitted from the final national list on Monday when the General Secretary of the party John Boadu made an announcement without justification.
Angry supporters of the party who are yet to recover from the shock want an explanation from the General Secretary or face their ire.
Addressing a news conference in Amakom in Kumasi, the group said, “we want to alert the leaders of the party that there’s something going on wrong in the party, most especially, the candidate who went for vetting and was cleared by the regional committee chaired by John Boadu. Three people out of five were cleared, now only two have been cleared to contest leaving one out and so we want to know why? ’’ Robert Osei Asibey told EIB’s Isaac Justice Bediako.
He added, “we are not fighting the party but we have the right to know why Frank Duodu’s name was omitted from the final list of aspirants cleared to contest, else the party will regret it’s action. We are giving the party up to the end of this week to clear the air on this matter.”
Osei Asibey, leader of disappointed supporters of Frank Duadu suspects some ‘mafia hand’ in the omission of their favourite aspirant’s name from the list to give other aspirants competitive advantage in the upcoming primaries.
“We have been disrespected for far too long as grassroots members of the party who seriously continue to work day in and day out to keep the party active at its grassroots base. It is high time the party respect our voice as well to forester unity.
“There’s no doubt that Subin MP has no hand in this mafia work. The party should take a lesson from what happened in Bekwai constituency and avoid skirt and brose voting style in the 2020 general elections’’ Osei Assibey stressed with ire.
